Social Justice Newsletter: The Mosaic
Working closely with the other Trinity ministry teams, we provide a platform for information and communication on vital issues. Education, self-examination, and collective discernment can lead us to a deeper understanding of one another, our responsibilities as Christians, and our challenge to build the Beloved Community for all God’s children and creation. We aim to be contemplative in our aims while being agile enough to respond to the events and circumstances of our fast-paced society and world.
We share written prayer in response to events in the world, lead educational forums and discussion opportunities, and disseminate information and calls to action.
Upcoming and ongoing activities include: annual participation in the DC Capital Pride Parade; annual celebration of Trinity's Reconciling anniversary; supporting voting rights; attending events led by political and social leaders.
Past activities include: Homosexuality and the Bible study series; Reproductive Health seminar series; Virginia Advocacy Day at the State Capital.
Our call as Christians is to reflect God’s justice and mercy through our attitudes and behavior. Faith is an action, something we do, not words we say. Justice making is realized in our equitable treatment and advocacy of all.
As Christians, we are compelled through our faith and the Gospel teachings of Jesus Christ to be not only the hands and feet of Christ in the Church, but also vessels of societal transformation, actively working to bring God’s vision of peace, justice, and equity to the world. As a community of faith in the Methodist tradition, we are blessed with a legacy of social justice activism, starting with John Wesley and our Trinity forebears and continuing today. We are called to boldly address and seek to heal societal oppression, inequality, racism, and violence, and to foster stewardship and care of God’s creation.
