• I'm Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness, by Austin Channing Brown

• In My Place, by Charlayne Hunter-Gault. A memoir telling the story of her life from birth in the Deep South, living out the legacy of the Civil War, to her historic role in desegregating the U of GA.

• Wouldn't Take Nothing for my Journey Now, by Maya Angelou.  A collection of brief essays that reflect on her life. 

• The Burning: Massacre, Destruction, and the Tulsa Race Riot of 1921, by Tim Madigan
